About AI & Me

(Anti) AI Policy

The writing you see on this website, in my newsletters, books, and anything else I create is created by me, a human being, operating with natural human intelligence. My music, stories, group and individual offerings, presentations, (Every. Damn. Thing. I. Make.) is created without the use of any form of generative AI. All mistakes and typos are my own.

I use the oxford comma, the ellipses, the em-dash and other stylistic choices in line with my being an X-ennial writer who prefers to spell grey with an e, loves alternative punctuation, and takes creative license with how she writes.

I am committed to the healing of our planet. Generative AI usage directly causes environmental destruction. LLMs (such as Chat GPT, Claude, Gemini, etc) are frequently inaccurate thirdhand sources of information. In addition to the environmental destruction, inaccuracies, and questionable results, generative AI models were trained without the consent of artists, authors, actors, and other humans who created books, music, artwork, photography, and other works and performances (and everyday interactions online which were fed to these machines). AI use also creates more over-reliance on technology to the detriment of our cognitive health and performance.

Generative AI use is incredibly unethical, and I am committed to not using it in any knowing way. I ask artists, editors, and others I work with their AI policies and do my best to ensure they do not use generative AI when we agree to work together.

Because of my strong stance against AI use, I do not allow the use of AI note-taker bots, Meta Glasses, or other technologies which are harmful and tools of surveillance and the (nonconsensual) harvesting of biometrics such as voice, facial recognition, etc. I do of course allow the use of devices and tech for accessibility such as aids for hearing or visual impairment. I strongly encourage you to also reject the use of generative AI, to join in the work to protect lands and waters from proposed data centers, protect privacy, and to maintain human skills, seek wisdom over quick information and relationships and community over chat bots.

For more reading on the topic, I highly recommend reading the study by MIT on cognitive costs of AI, Shae O. Omonijo’s work on critical thinking in the age of AI (as well as her videos), and just about any climate action group or environmental protector’s analysis on the cost of data centers built for generative AI compared with those that house simple websites, email, etc.
